A wildfire burning between Castlegar and Trail is visible from Highway 22 near Birchbank.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire at Sullivan Creek was discovered Sunday, May 30. As of Tuesday, the fire had grown to five hectares. The fire was now been classified as out of control.

The Southeast Fire Centre confirmed the cause of the fire was lightning.

Air tankers and fire crews have been fighting the fire with 23 people assigned to the task early in the week.

A second fire has also been discovered to the west of Oasis.

Originally called the South Murphy Creek Fire, the Topping Creek fire was also caused by lightning. It remains under one hectare in size. Air tankers fighting the Sullivan Creek fire on Sunday also dropped retardant on the Topping Creek Fire.

By Monday evening, the fire was classified as being held.
