Margaret Rose Pogany
March 27, 1927 ~ May 18, 2017
It is with great sadness the family of Margaret Rose Pogany announce her passing on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Swan Valley Lodge at 90 years of age.
Margaret was born in Melville, SK March 27, 1927 and resided in Melville until June, 1936 when her parents Julia and Steve Szabo and one sister Betty moved to homestead north of Mistatim, SK.
When Margaret was 16 she went to London, ON with friends of the family, and worked there from May to Oct, then returned to Mistatim by train.
On February 19, 1945 her childhood sweetheart Joe Pogany returned to marry her. They were married in Tisdale, SK and then they took the train to Creston, BC where they settled for a few years. They moved to the farm at Lister, BC in 1949 where they raised their family. This is where they established the Golden Horn Ranch as a dairy for a few years, eventually switching to raising Horned Herefords. Margaret and Joe gained much respect as one of the top purebred Hereford producers in British Columbia associated with the BC and Canadian Hereford Associations. This legacy is now being carried on by Clifford and Kari-Ann Pogany.
Margaret loved gardening, sewing, cooking, and being a hostess for many dinner parties. She enjoyed attending the Red Hat functions, going to Cowboy Poetry events and writing her own poetry, but most of all she loved being with family and living on the farm.
She was pre-deceased by parents Julia and Steve Szabo, husband of 56 years Joe Pogany in 2001, and granddaughter Jackie Pogany 1986.
Margaret will be missed by family, son Ken (Nola) Pogany of Leduc County, granddaughter Kim (Byron) Myhre, great-grandchildren Haley, Tanner, Ethan and Brooke of Sherwood Park, AB, granddaughter Kari (Nigel) Kucher, great-grandchildren Savanna and Jake of Edmonton, AB, Derek(Robin) Pogany, great-grandchildren Cohen and Benjamin of Sherwood Park, AB; daughter Gloria (Gary) Knight of Cranbrook, BC, grandson Joel (Val) Knight of Calgary, AB, granddaughter Leah Knight of Hinton, AB; son Clifford (Kari-Ann) Pogany of Creston, BC, granddaughter Amanada Pogany (Alex Murray) of Kamloops, BC, granddaughter Brandi Pogany (Rob Wegner) of Creston, BC and Darlene Pogany of Sherwood Park, AB.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00am at Christ Church Anglican with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Reiner, Dale Hack, Bernie Meekes, Wendell Kennedy, Gordie Mahon, and Dan Kellow.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel, Creston, BC with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC.
