About 300 people spent time at the Candaian Cancer Society's Relay for Life, which was held in Creston on June 4 in Millennium Park.
Eleven teams took part in the day’s events, which included live music and head shaving. Nearly $65,000 was raised, with the Purple Fionas, captained by Keisha Ringheim, being the team that earned the most, about $7,000.
A can tab challege was also part of the festivities, with 2,575 grams of tabs being donated. They will be delivered to Calgary’s Ronald McDonald House, which can exchange the tabs for money, helping to finance the operation of the houses.
In the tab challenge, Elsie Neufeld came in second, with a donation of 400 grams, and Pat and Alan Chapman came in third, having collected 375 grams. Alicia Rogers and Louise Esch also contributed. As a thank you, each person will receive a reusable cancer logo carry bag.
A whopping 1,400 grams from an anonymous donor, who is asked to call Pat Chapman at 250-866-5564 to arrange to receive their prize.
If you are collecting tabs and didn’t make it to the relay, collection jars are now at Pharmasave, the Creston Valley Advance, the Trinity United Church, Adam Robertson Elementary School and the Creston Golf Course restaurant.
