Creston Overwaitea and the Overwaitea Food Group kicks off an ambitious fundraising effort with Jeans Day next Thursday, May 4.

The provincial goal is to raise $15 million for the BC Children’s Hospital. That would bring the OFG total contribution to BCCH to $45 million, making Overwaitea Food Group the hospital’s largest donor ever.

Ellen Tzakis heads up local fundraising efforts for Creston Overwaitea, and by last Monday she had signed on 57 Creston Valley businesses and 6 schools to participate in Jeans Day. A $5 donation gets a pin depicting the Children’s Hospital’s smiling sun, and for $20 or more donors get a metal pin and a charitable donation tax receipt.

“Here in our store we really believe in this cause because we see the kids and families who benefit from treatment at BC Children’s Hospital,” Tzakis said. “Customers really appreciated when we posted some of the local stories last year, and they continually step up to contribute to this fantastic facility.”

May 4 marks the 27th annual Jeans Day event, and Tzakis and her team are hoping to see “nothing but denim” in Creston Valley businesses and schools on that day.

“Jeans Day is a great way to get your workplace involved in a fun and feel-good event,” she said. “It’s easy to get involved, too. We will provide you with all the necessary materials and there is no cost to your organization. Please join us!”
