The Creston Refugee Committee invites the public to a free showing of a new documentary movie, Moving to Mars.
The movie is based on the true story of a Burmese refugee family that was sponsored to freedom in England. It tells of the challenges it, and others, face while adapting to a new and different culture.
With one family of refugees from Burma comfortably settled in Creston and another (unrelated) family having arrived last month, the movie is a timely one. While a small group of dedicated volunteers takes on the sponsorship of refugee families, a broader understanding of what these new residents experience can make their transition easier.
Moving to Mars will be shown at Prince Charles Theatre at 7 p.m. Jan. 12, sponsored by the refugee committee and Columbia Basin Trust.
