Caleb, son of Phil and Charmaine Phypers, was thrilled with his extra large 12-foot, four-inch sunflower plant — the four-foot, five-inch nine-year-old is small in comparison to the sunflower.

The family cut it down Sept. 1 and the head was 15 inches in diameter with the bottom stock 6.5 inches and the largest leaf 13.5 inches across. They had planted regular sized plants and this plant was far bigger than the others.
