The BC Seniors Games are coming on Aug. 16-20 to Nelson, Castlegar and Trail. Creston is located in Zone 7 and it is hoped that representatives from the Creston Valley can support the host zone’s efforts. The entry deadline is June 10.

This is a great opportunity for our zone to attend as the games are so close to home. Zone 7 encompasses Fernie, Kimberley, Yahk, Jaffray, Cranbrook, Creston, Riondel and anything else in between. This means competitors can join up with anyone else in those areas to form a team.

There will be opening and closing ceremonies, medals for the winners and a free dinner and dance on the Friday night.

The province of B.C. established the games to encourage B.C.’s 55-plus population to stay healthy and active. The games now provide wide range of activities, including archery, badminton, bocce, bridge, carpet bowling, cribbage, cycling, darts, dragon boat racing, equestrian, fivepins bowling, floor curling, golf, horseshoes, ice curling, men’s ice hockey, mountain biking, one-act plays, pickle ball, slo-pitch, soccer swimming, table tennis, track and field, tennis and whist.

Host cities provide different events, ranging from the very active to those more socially oriented. You can also attend as a non-playing participant.
