Nick Redding was brief in his comments about two more weekend losses for his Creston Valley Thunder Cats.
It was “a disappointing weekend for us and we have to be better,” the team’s head coach said on Monday.
A 4-1 loss to the host Fernie Ghostriders on Friday night was followed up by a 10-1 smackdown to the Golden Rockets (remember when they were the perennial weak team in the Eddie Mountain Division?) in the hometown John Bucyk Arena on Saturday.
Braunson Holloway (Carson Small, Aiden Wong) was the only T-Cat to get the puck past Fernie goaltender Justin Faiella on Friday. Faiella turned away the other 27 shots he faced while Eric Samyn allowed 3 goals in 41 shots for Creston.
Samyn was on the bench in favour of an extra attacker when Fernie scored the game’s final goal.
On Saturday, Creston was down 3-0 in the second period before Logan Berggren put up a power play marker with assists from Trail Thompson and Andrew Clark. The Rockets had pushed the score to 10-1 before another man-advantage goal by Aiden Wong (Austin Canete and Andrew Clark) finished the chippy affair’s scoring.
The Thunder Cats now sit 17 points behind fourth place Golden and a whopping 41 points behind the division-leading Kimberley Dynamiters.
Next up for the Creston team is a Friday night game in Fruitvale against the Columbia Valley Rockies. The Cats return home to take on the Spokane Braves on Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
