On the May long weekend, the 1999 Kootenay Blades won the gold medal in the 1999 division at the Vancouver Challenge Cup spring tournament.
This year, the 1999 Kootenay Blades consisted of three players from Creston, along with others from Cranbrook and Spokane. Jake Livingstone, Jordan Wood and Matthew Armitage were on the team, with Dave Armitage being an assistant coach.
Morey Babikaiff, who recently moved from Creston, was also on the team.
