Creston's midget hockey team ties weekend games

The Creston Chiefs played against Invermere twice on the weekend, tying their games 4-4 and 1-1...

A trip up to Invermere for an exhibition game and a league game led to some very exciting hockey.

On Saturday night, the Creston Chiefs midget rep team battled the Invermere Rockies midget team for a nail-biting game.

The game started with the first goal by Creston’s Josh Samuels, assisted by Talon Maatz and Michael Makortoff, at 14:42 in the first period. Invermere answered the call just a few minutes later.

Eddie Blackmore retaliated, scoring Creston’s second goal at 7:43 in the second period, assisted by Tyler Everitt and Makortoff. Invermere evened the score once again, closer to the end of the second period.

Skating hard and refusing to give up, Owen Blackmore, Zach Van Ruyskensvelde, scored again for Creston at 11:04 in the third period. Again, the Invermere team evened the score and then pulled ahead by one. Creston worked hard and tied the score at 4:44 in the third period, finishing the game in a 4-4 tie.

The excitement continued Sunday morning, when Creston again challenged Invermere in their first league game. The first and most of the second period remained scoreless, until after a hard battle Invermere scored their first goal at the end of the second period.

Creston fought hard, skated hard and scored in the third period at 8:55. The goal was scored by Michael Marokoff and assisted by Carlos Blackmore and Owen Blackmore. The game again ended in a tie, 1-1.
