The Creston Wave Swim Club hosted a meet on June 21 and 22.

The Creston Wave Swim Club was very busy in the spring. Every weekend for the month of June,swimmers have been competing at swim meets throughout the Kootenays. Starting at the Nelson swim meet, all the swimmers swam exciting races with huge best times coming from Kylee Pemberton, Katelyn and Jake Wiens, Madi, Nikki and Delaney Mackinlay, Chloe Luke, Carter Pelly, Jeffery Roelofse, Sierra Simpson, Callum Ziefflie, and Ashley and Alex Mottl.

At the Grand Forks swim meet, Creston swimmers Kate and Quinn Page, Levi Huber, Sierra Simpson and Kylee Pemberton received best times in all their races. Pemberton placed third in her 100-metre backstroke and 50-metre freestyle, and Sierra and Quinn both won the silver medal for their divisions.

In Trail, once again, the hard work in practice paid off with more impressive results in the pool by Carter, Chloe, Katelyn and Jake, Sierra and Kieran Simpson, Kylee, Jeffery, Madi, Nikki and Delaney, and Ashley. Katelyn won bronze and Pelly won silver for the Div. 4 girls. Coach Kieran Simpson won gold for Div. 7 boys, and coach Hilary Legault won gold for the Div. 7 girls.

June 21 and 22 was the Creston Wave home meet. All the swimmers competed in six swimming events involving backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly, as well as relays. Creston Wave members won quite a few medals, including bronze for Quinn in Div. 1 boys, silver for Sierra and gold for Madi in Div. 3 girls, bronze for Janie Viola and silver for Carter in Div. 4 girls, silver for Chloe Luke in Div. 5 girls, gold for Kieran in Div. 7 boys and gold for Hilary in Div. 7 girls.

The club’s last meet for the spring was in Colville, Wash. Once again, the swimmers impressed the parents and coaches with fast swims and many best times. All the swimmers raced hard, including Emily, Bea Roelofse, Chloe, Caytlyn Luke, Carter, Katelyn, Kylee, Sierra, Madi, Nikki, Delaney, Jeffrey, Isaiah Persad, Jake, Hayden Persad, Nadine Persad, Natasha Hopkins, Callum Ziefflie and Alex Hopkins, as well as coaches Monique Ares, Hilary and Kieran. Creston Wave once again took home medals, with Carter winning silver in Div. 4 girls, Emily Simpson winning gold in Div. 6 girls, Kieran winning silver in Div. 7 boys, and Hilary winning gold in Div. 7 girls.

Looking forward, the Creston Wave Swim Club will still be busy training in the pool as there are still competitions to be held in Castlegar and Kimberley, and then Trail for the regional championships to qualify for provincials, which will be held in Kamloops at the end of August.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who have worked hard to win swimmer of the week: Kate Page, Nikki Mackinlay, Jeffrey Roelofse, Ada Brown, Chloe Luke, Mack Sanderson, Nadine Persad and Kylee Pemberton. who also won Speedo’s swimmer of the month for the province of B.C..
