Another local player has signed to play with the Creston Valley Thunder Cats for the 2012-2013 season, joining Creston player Colby Livingstone, who signed in May.
Defenceman Matthew Sonntag, 17, will play for the Thunder Cats full-time, after spending last season as an affiliate player, a position that allowed him to play two games.
“It was a big change from what I’m used to,” he said. “The intensity picks up. It’s a bigger rush.”
Since he started playing hockey at age seven, Sonntag has advanced a lot, playing for the Creston rep team for the last few years. Now, he’s looking forward to playing Junior B hockey in his hometown.
“It’s nice because I’ll have everyone watching me,” he said.
The team’s staff is also pleased to have him aboard — they got a good look at what he’s capable of during his weekly practices with the Thunder Cats.
“He got better and better as the year developed,” said assistant coach Garth Ludwar.
