The Prince Charles Secondary School Grade 8 boys volleyball team

The high school volleyball season ended on the weekend, with the Prince Charles Secondary School Grade 8 boys, coached by Mike Nelson and Larry Hills, finishing first in the East Kootenay.

•The senior boys team travelled to Kelowna for the AA provincial championship having placed first in the East Kootenay, and finished 14th in the province.

The team, with two graduating seniors, Daniel Wigen and Niel Jacobsen, was coached by Rick Czar.

The boys won three games, defeating Richmond’s H.J. Cambie Secondary School 2-1, Vernon Secondary School 2-1 and Charles Hayes Secondary School of Prince Rupert 2-1. They lost four games: 2-0 to Charles Hayes, 3-0 to Abbotsford’s Mennonite Educational Institute, 2-0 to Prince George’s College Heights Secondary School and 2-0 to Highland Secondary School of Comox.

•The senior girls finished third in the east and west Kootenays, coached by Bob Gollan and Allison Kepke. The team has seven graduating seniors, Jillian Bjarnason, Cheyanne Kehler, Lena Makortoff, Marissa Van Ryskensvelde, Ashley Sommerfeld, Kara Phillips and Danielle Reid.

•Coached by Dianne MacDonald and Joyce Lawrence, the junior girls finished 10th in the East Kootenay.

•The junior boys, coached by Carrie Czar and Doug Dortman, finished sixth in the East Kootenay.

•Coached by Judine Maki, the Grade 8 girls finished sixth in the East Kootenay.
