Nov. 15 and 16 was a big weekend for the Prince Charles Secondary School volleyball teams.
The senior boys, coached by Rick Czar and Wade Giles, finished first in the East Kootenay, winning the gold medal and qualifying for provincials in Kelowna at the end of the month. They defeated teams from Kimberley and Invermere.
The senior girls, coached by Bob Gollan and Allison Kepke, finished second in the East Kootenay, losing to Kimberley in the final and receiving the silver medal. This concludes the season for the senior girls, who opted not to pursue the wildcard provincial tournament spot.
The bantams hosted a home tournament. The boys won the whole tournament and went undefeated, and the girls finished sixth overall. Both teams, coached by Mike Nelson and Judine Maki, have their East Kootenay championships coming up in the next two weeks.
The junior teams, coached by Ryan Windhorst, Kelsey Hurd, Erin Carr and Gillian Kemle, travelled to Kimberley, where the boys finished fourth and the girls finished sixth. East Kootenay championship play will take place on Nov. 22 and 23.
