Creston junior boys lose basketball tourney in final game against Invermere

The Prince Charles Secondary School junior boys basketball team had a good start to their season opener in Invermere on the weekend.

They came up against Kimberley in their first game, which was close through the first half, with Kimberley up 17-16. Creston came out running in the third quarter and dominated the scoring 17-0, taking the game 36-21. Jamond Dortman led the way with 13 points.

In their second match, Creston pressed their way to an easy win over Fernie, for a final score of 44-27. Makaiah Gorham had a great game on defence and added eight points.

Creston cruised past Parkland 54-12 in their third game, to put them in the final against Invermere. Leo Evans dominated the scoring against Parkland with 22 points.

In the final, Creston had their hands full against a tall Invermere team, which took the lead 22-17 at the half. In the third quarter, Invermere stretched their lead to 15 but Creston came storming back with 18 points in the fourth to make it close, but fell short 49-43. Jordin Czar had a strong game and led the way with 14 points.

The junior boys’ next action is in Cranbrook at the Jan. 10 Mount Baker Secondary School tournament.
