Members from the Creston Judo Club recently attended the 25th annual judo tournament in Fernie, along with teams from Raymond, Lethbridge, Invermere, Fernie and Salmo.

Creston’s participation involved 18 individual athletes competing in various weight divisions and a five-person team.

The five-person team of Brae Booth, Kyle Qualtieri, Kaeden Rendek, Brandon Hills and Rielle Francouer lost a close 3-2 decision to the Fernie team in the single knock-out round robin.

A total of 20 medals were brought home by Arman Tarhan (bronze), Adam Hansen (bronze), Jeremy Dyer (silver), Brae Booth (gold), Kyle Qualtieri (gold), Justin Juurlink (gold), Kaeden Rendek (silver), Kaydon Booth (bronze), Dylan Armitage (silver), Dustin Blackmore (gold), Rielle Francoeur (bronze, silver), Brandon Hills (gold), Leelen Samuleson (gold, bronze), Kim Francoeur (silver), Peter Juurlink (gold), Dillon Hack (silver, gold) and Donovan Hack (silver).

The club extends its appreciation to all of the parents who helped out on the day of the tournament, as well as coaches Munroe Albert and Ben Reinhardt for all of their time and dedication in preparing the young judokas for this event.
