The Creston Chiefs peewee rep hockey team had a home-and-home against Golden last weekend. Even with Golden having five over-age players on their team, they were no match for the Chiefs.

Saturday’s home game saw the locals score early and with great passing and teamwork, the boys skated away with a 12-2 score. Creston had players with many points and lots of assists, and they are gaining confidence each week. If they stick to the team game, they will be OK.

On Sunday in Golden, they once again had a great start, which resulted in a 7-0 lead at the end of the first period. The Chiefs had some sweet passes with everyone chipping in and getting points. The final score was 16-0 for the Chiefs.

The team learned a couple of valuable lessons on the weekend: One is when the referee makes calls or non-calls, they must work through it and keep playing their game. The second is when you are a good hockey team or a good player, you have a bulls eye on you and you must keep your head on a swivel. Playing hard with discipline is part of the learning curve, and overall the coaches are proud of the way the team plays.

This coming weekend has them playing two home games, on Saturday against Trail at 10:15 a.m. and Sunday against Cranbrook at 1:05 p.m.

•The bantam Bruins had two games this weekend. On Saturday against Elk Valley in Creston, the team played well and was out-muscled. Creston had some great opportunities, but the Elk Valley goalie had a great game. Elk Valley held on for the win.

On Sunday, Creston travelled to Kimberley for a late game. Creston scored early within 18 seconds to open the scoring. Otto Blackmore, Owen Blackmore and Jayden Gigliotti all had two goals each. Single goals went to Kyle Golbeck and Zack King. Great plays by Kristi Blackmore on defence and Chris Mulder in net led to an 8-3 victory for Creston.

The bantam Bruins are off to a tournament in Trail and Rossland this weekend.

•The atom B team had a busy weekend with their first three games of league play. The Saturday morning game was against Elkford on home ice. This game was the “rookie” game, with first-time player Bea Roelofse playing forward and Regan Sanderson in the net. The first period was all Elkford, scoring four goals. The Bruins scored their first goal with seven minutes remaining in the second period with Sebastian Thompson scoring and Richard Blackmore assisting. The third period started with a bang, with Meredith Walker scoring an unassisted goal 40 seconds into the period. The final score 16-2 for Elkford.

Saturday afternoon brought Cranbrook to town. Creston fought a good fight but ended with a significant loss.

Sunday was a new day and a new game, with the team on the road to Marysville to play Kimberley. The Bruins once again had a scoreless first period but came back to score in the second. Walker scored her second goal of the weekend with Noah Blackmore on the assist at the 14-minute mark of the second period. The second goal of the game was scored by Cody Denunzio with Noah Blackmore on the assist only 2:50 into the third period. The final score was 14-2 for Kimberley.

The team played well together and played with heart and soul. Keep an eye out for this emerging team.

The atom B's next game will be Dec. 17 at home against Kimberley.
