Creston bantam rep hockey team loses to Cranbrook, beats Elk Valley

The Creston Valley Minor Hockey Association’s bantam rep team travelled to Cranbrook on Nov. 24 to battle the Kootenay Ice at Western Financial Place. Cole Bright was the team’s starting goaltender.

Despite the boys’ hard work, Creston lost with a 6-3 final. Two goals were scored in the first period, by Brody Ryan (unassisted), and Matthew Toews assisted by Ryan. A third period goal was by Jake Kolodychuk, with an assist by defenceman Ethan Plotnikoff.

On Nov. 25, the boys faced Elk Valley in a league game on home ice. Matthew Armitage was starting goaltender.

Eight seconds into the game, Creston put one on the board, a goal scored by Alex Blackmore, assisted by Brody Ryan. Elk Valley fought back and tied it up quickly. Creston’s second goal went to Kolodychuk (unassisted). Plotnikoff, assisted by Armitage, scored Creston’s third goal, and the fourth was an unassisted goal scored by Ryan. Kolodychuk got his second goal with assists from Jake Livingstone and Matthew Toews. Kolodychuk made it a hat trick with the game winner in the third, assisted by Alex Blackmore and Levi Palmer.

Elk Valley pulled their goaltender to make it a battle to the end, but Creston took the big win, with a final score of 6-5.
