The Prince Charles Secondary School bantam boys team placed fourth in the Kootenay zone.

As the season wound down, Prince Charles Secondary School basketball teams saw recent action.

On Feb. 12, the bantam boys played at Trafalgar Middle School in Nelson. The team, coached by Larry Hills, defeated Trail 28-26 and Salmo 36-24, and lost 27-19 to Trafalgar.

On Feb. 15/16, the junior boys hosted a home tournament. The boys were divided into a Grade 9 team and a Grade 10 team, both coached by Rick Czar. The Gold team (Grade 9) did not win any games but improved significantly over the weekend. James Troughton and Jordin Czar were high scorers. The Blue team (Grade 10) defeated Selkirk (Kimberley), Mount Baker (Cranbrook) and lost to David Thompson (Invermere). Donovan Osterreicher and Mitchell Bell were high scorers for the team.

The senior boys, coached by Andrew Stolz and Doug Dortman, travelled to Fernie where they finished third in the six-team tournament. The boys defeated Sparwood 80-77, lost to David Thompson 91-63 and defeated Selkirk 70-47. High scorers for the team were Kieran Poznikoff, Brayden Czar and Dean Torgrimson.

The junior girls, coached by Lyndi Gerlinsky and Tara Sandoval, travelled to Kimberley on Feb. 15/16. They lost to 43-36 to Selkirk and 57-28 to Mount Baker, and defeated David Thompson 41-38.

Three teams finished off their seasons on the Feb. 22/23 weekend. The senior boys finished fifth in the zone (East Kootenay and West Kootenay combined), defeating Stanley Humphries (Castlegar) 75-37, losing 60-47 to Grand Forks and defeating David Thompson 61-51. The senior girls finished fourth in the zone, defeating Stanley Humphries 44-18 and losing to L.V. Rogers (Nelson) and David Thompson. The bantam boys finished fourth in the East Kootenay. They lost 54-17 to Jaffray, defeated Parkland (Cranbrook) 36-21 and Sparwood 36-32, and lost 40-21 to Selkirk. The three teams were coached by Doug Dortman, Andrew Stolz, Sharen Popoff, Larry Hills, Steve Smeaton and Sue Thorne this season.

The junior girls hosted a home tournament on Feb. 22/23. The girls beat Selkirk 43-41, lost 44-23 to Mount Baker and 37-34 to David Thompson, and beat Grand Forks 65-32.

The junior boys and girls will have their championship games this weekend.
