Students from the Kootenay Lake school district's Aboriginal education program took part in the sixth annual youth powwow at the Creston and District Community Complex today.

The morning's grand entry included recognition of First Nations veterans, as well as Creston Valley air and army cadets. First-time dancers were acknowledged during the powwow in a ceremony by former Lower Kootenay Band chief Chris Luke, Sr. Also, the four Creston Aboriginal education workers — Laurel Ewashen (Canyon-Lister), Jackie Mynott (Prince Charles), Josie Fullarton (Adam Robertson) and Janet Zarchukoff (Erickson) — had a chance to select other teachers to participate.

The annual event (photos from 2014 and 2015) brings in students from Alberta and the U.S., as well as other southeastern B.C. schools, including a youth drum group from Cranbrook.
