Yahk resident still looking for doctor after eight years

People who are starting a practice to bring doctors to this area should not be in business if all it is to them is a financial investment...

To the Editor:

(Re: “Creston doctors locked out of Osprey Medical Clinic”, Feb. 6 Advance)

I would like you to understand one thing. I am over 50 years old, and I have been looking for a doctor in this area of B.C. for eight years. I have been told that you cannot just walk into a medical clinic, so obviously our health means no more than dirt on the street. We all have a history that needs to be taken care of.

With people that want to or a situation that wants to run doctors out of this town, we are left with an unacceptable situation. We as a family think that this is outrageous. We are paying health care premiums but we have no access to health care. People who are starting a practice to help the community and bring doctors to this area should not be in business if all it is to them is a financial investment.

I, myself, as a 55-year-old who cannot get any kind of care in this area because of the doctor shortage in Creston and Cranbrook, will commit myself to protest throughout this country. These people that are not looking after or supporting our doctors and nurses but looking only for money as opposed to looking after people’s lives and health cause everyone to suffer.

To anyone that feels the same in this situation: I would like to start a petition to the government of Canada. It is not acceptable to have to sit in emergency for three hours just to have a prescription refilled.
