Will HST promises be broken?

To the Editor:

I have watched the ads on TV and read MLA Bill Bennett’s letter in the Advance (July 7) debating the other side of the HST. Everywhere, they mention the HST at 10 per cent. Whenever I pay HST, it is always 12 per cent.

I know the Liberals have promised to lower it to 10 per cent in 2014. They promised all kinds of rebates “in the future”.

In 1991, the Conservatives introduced the GST. The Liberals promised to abolish the GST when elected. The Liberals were elected, and they still kept the HST.

My point is, if they wanted to lower the HST, it should have been done yesterday. Any promises made for the future can easily be broken. This seems to be the Liberal way.
