To the Editor:

We have a woman in Creston who is about to give birth. The Ministry of Children and Families says she is a wonderful woman with a loving heart. She does not do drugs and she is not an alcoholic, but the Ministry of Children and Families wants to apprehend her newborn once it’s born.

Why? Because she took young teenagers and runaways, mothers with babies, into her home when they had nowhere to go. She gave them a roof over their heads and food to eat. After a while, teenagers would go home, and parents would say thank you to her.

Some stories spread like wildfire around Creston that were not true. They made her house sound like a flophouse, and all she was trying to do was give them a safe place to stay when no one else would. Some of these teenagers now have their own jobs.

And how does that make her an unfit mother? This is her first baby — she’s never been a mother.

Where is justice, when all mothers had a right to take their children home? What is becoming of our world?
