Ukraine unrest part of U.S. and EU plan to loot banks and corporations

The new world order doesn’t come cheap. Besides, it is not even new. It’s the same old order of lies, hypocrisy, and plunder...

To the Editor:

The events in Ukraine appear very authentic, even idyllic: a country valiantly struggling for democracy. But on closer look it becomes obvious this is part of a pre-planned U.S. and European Union (EU) push eastward, the aim being to make Ukraine accessible for looting by their banks and corporations.

Many U.S. organizations, including billionaire George Soros and company, have been active in Ukraine since the demise of Soviet rule, discovering and financing various right-wing groups, including fascists. These bought groups eventually became the opposition who through street violence toppled the government. Victoria Nuland, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, reported on Dec. 13, that the “U.S. has invested five billion dollars in agitation in Ukraine.”

There you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth: The new world order doesn’t come cheap. Besides, it is not even new. It’s the same old order of lies, hypocrisy, and plunder.

The only new elements are the tremendous amounts of violence and the almost total control of everything on the planet by the Anglo-American-Wall Street Empire. Ukraine is no exception, the Empire is involved in it for its own gain, and only the gullible and the very foolish imagine otherwise. I see no advantage for a working class man in this project, because he will only get poorer when Ukraine becomes part of EU.

According to www.wsws.org, President Barack Obama, in a public statement delivered in Mexico, threatened that “there will be consequences if people step over the line.” He hastened to make clear that Washington is referring not to the right-wing demonstrators who have attacked security forces with gunfire, firebombs, paving stones and clubs. Rather, he said, “We hold the Ukrainian government primarily responsible.” In the course of his brief remarks, Obama repeatedly used the phrase “peaceful protesters”, a description very much at odds with their wild and deadly attacks against security forces in Kiev and other cities.

After the bloodiest fighting on Feb. 20, Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych gave in to the West-supported opposition and visiting foreign ministers of France, Germany and Poland. A national unity government that will include the opposition will be formed. Later this year, elections will be held.

The U.S., although not formally present at these negotiations, “applauded the results.” Its statement declared that the Obama administration is gratified by the outcome in Kiev as “consistent with what we have advocated. … These statements underscore the utterly reactionary and reckless policy of the imperialist powers, which have worked with fascist groups to drive Ukraine and the entire region to the brink of war. In November last year, Yanukovych cancelled the signing of an association agreement with the EU at the last minute and instead moved closer to Russia. Since then, Germany and the U.S. have systematically sought to destabilize and divide Ukraine.”

Regardless of the immediate developments on the ground, the likely outcome for Ukraine will be as planned by western imperialists. She will have to dismantle her major and minor industries, her social safety net, and sell to foreigners everything that is worth anything at bargain-basement prices. All other former Eastern Bloc countries had to do the same in order to join the EU. Ukraine is a win-win situation for the Empire.
