Town of Creston needs own police force

Would it not be great to hire our own young women and men to police our town, instead outsiders?

Don’t panic people of Creston — simply create our own police force. Would it not be great to hire our own young women and men to police our town, instead outsiders? Bonners Ferry has its own police force with eight full-time officers and it is not overrun by drug dealers.

There is an imaginary line down the middle of a road that divides the Municipality of Delta and the City of Surrey. The RCMP polices Surrey and Delta has its own municipal police force. The Maclean’s 2011 crime ratings, 1 being worst, show Surrey at 10 and Delta at 66. The difference is that Delta has a mayor and council directly engaged in how their community police operate and Surrey relies on a dysfunctional  bureaucracy (RCMP) in Ottawa to determine how their community is policed.

RCMP commissioner Bob Paulson stated flatly that too many Mounties today believe that their authority entitles them to misuse power. He said his 30,000 employees need to better understand accountability and leadership, or the Mounties may be “one or two more earth-shattering heartbreaks” away from losing all credibility.

Who do you want to police your town?
