To the Editor:

This writer takes the biblical view that the Earth is over 6,000 years old and that creation took longer than six days.

We should accept that “day” and “period of time” are the same word in Hebrew. The daytime as we know it was not arranged before the fourth “day” of creation. In 2 Peter 3:8, it says, “Do not let this fact escape your notice that with the Lord, one day is as a thousand years.”

The Bible starts with, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.” Genesis 1:2 explains, “And the Earth was empty and devoid of all life.” Stop. Take a breath. So before the creation account of all living plants and life starting in Genesis 1:3, there was a lifeless planet we call Earth, which then could have been several millions of years old.

To those who insist all planets were created in one day, besides the billions of stars, let us consider their sizes. The sun is more than 1,000 times bigger than the Earth. The biggest star we know, VY Canis Majoris, is more than 1,000 times bigger than the sun or over one million times bigger than our Earth.

One-day theorists claim God created several thousands of stars every second in one day, that he only had one part of heaven with the angels for billions of years, and then, all of a sudden, He went on a mad rush, and in six days from evening to morning created the whole universe.

“There was evening, there was morning,” was written after each creation. Evening stands for darkness, and darkness is nothing, just absence of light. There was nothing of what God was going to create. Morning stands for a new time, a new day, a ready creation. If evening and morning is taken literally, how come nothing was done in the day?

Consider all that was created on the sixth day, including Adam, who named all the animals, then got lonely and lost a rib for the creation of Eve, and then the creation of the Garden of Eden. It would have taken Adam more than a day to name the animals since he had never done anything before and was, like me, computer illiterate.

I feel sorry for the fine Christian youth who are fed the story of a 6,000-year-old Earth. Because of that, we lose 75-80 per cent of them when they go to high school and university. Just be strong about creation. Evolution is easily disproved as it is just a laughable hoax.
