Teen columnist used satire to show double standards

LoRae Blackmore defends her column regarding the "Proper Woman", glad to see it created discussion...

To the Editor:

(Re: “The Teen Take: Do you know how to identify the Proper Woman?”)

I wrote this column to point out the utter ridiculousness of the idea that women can be “sluts”. The article, written satirically, was meant to criticize slut-shaming and victim-blaming. Women should be free to express their sexualities as they please, without being seen as lesser human beings, and the victim is never responsible for rape. No matter how short her skirt is or how much alcohol she’s consumed, it is not the victim’s fault, but the rapist’s. The “Proper Woman” was meant to portray just how silly the double standards that women face really are. Glad to see I got people talking.
