Parents must know more about Brain Gym

To the Editor:

To the Editor:

I am writing this in full concern and love for our children. If you do not believe in the spiritual realm, this stuff will make no sense. Please dig into this and make your own conclusion.

What has got us thrown for a loop, is that they introduced Brain Gym a few years ago, and the thing is, it’s yoga packaged in a nice child friendly box. What has got me baffled is that the teachers in the area think that this is the best thing since say “the model A” or the “Spock theory”. I can’t believe that the school district doesn’t see the deception all over this. The truth is hidden to what it really is, and then when confronted with the fact that I’ve done my research and know that the founder, Paul Dennison, is a complete fraud (as per the BBC) and yoga pusher, I am made to feel that I am some kind of worrywart.

Anyway this is completely wrong, and now have to decide what to do with the kids. We have decided possibly to homeschool. I do like the teachers and principal, and the kids have not been participating in Brain Gym this week. If you know about Brain Gym and think it is good, I am sorry for my rant and am in no way upset with the teachers involved (unfortunately, busy teachers make it impossible to know what is good or bad), but if not, do not accept this as proper exercise for your students.

Here are a few websites to check out: www.rantrave.com, solasisters.blogspot.com, donaldclarkplanb.blogspot.com and www.badscience.net.

Brain Gym has no scientific merit whatsoever, and then confronted with this research I am made to believe that they are just stretches, no different than what we did in gym 25 years ago. (By the way, we didn’t do mind control brain drain exercises when I went to school — that I remember.)

Thanks for letting me rant. There is way more to this than what I wrote, and I am pleading that principles, teachers, and parents get informed. They took out the Lord’s Prayer as it was not politically correct and it did not give equal religious rights, but the spirituality and deep roots of yoga are OK? They have not consulted with anyone except the private walls of the school district and government.
