Not all have health care

To the Editor:

Doctor’s day? What a bloody joke!

I have lived in Creston since 1995. Dr. Mitchell-Banks was my first doctor in Creston. Then I saw Drs. Kennedy, Kapur, Lavanchy and Patterson. They are no longer here or not practicing. It is provincial law that I carry a CareCard. There is no onus on doctors to provide care.

In two weeks, my wife is going for back surgery (we have been waiting for years). Her current doctor just threatened to fire her, because she was allegedly rude to a receptionist. She was told it’s easier to find new patients than a new receptionist. This so-called doctor has been nothing but rude, uncaring and belligerent toward my wife, and has also refused to provide what I would call adequate care, leaving us to fend for ourselves.

I am without a doctor myself. I just returned from trying to get in to see a local doctor. I was told to fill out a waiting list form, and that it may take years to get a family doctor. Now I know folks will say that this is not the doctor’s fault — well, in fact, it is the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons who determine how many doctors we have in B.C.

So there you have it. You must have health insurance but that does not insure you will have health care.
