None have right to judge

People just aren’t going to leave you Blackmores alone, are they?

To the Editor:

People just aren’t going to leave you Blackmores alone, are they? You get a bit of a rest for a few issues of the Advance, then somebody sees it and has to get in there and start it all up again. I think most of these letters come from people I call newcomers.

When I say newcomers, I mean people who have been here for 20 years or less. My family came here in 1892 and at that time was the only white family here.

I was born and raised here and have known the Blackmores forever. They were always known as hard workers, they stuck to themselves, they never bothered anybody and 30 years ago nobody bothered them like they do now.

They probably put more money into the valley than any other family. They have farms, logging outfits and post and rail outfits, and Winston seems to keep them all employed.

Mennonites, Huscrofts and Amish live somewhat the same way the Blackmores do, yet nobody seems to bother them. But they don’t have the extra wives, do they?

Mr. Certik (“Downfall from bad morals”, March 31 Advance, page 7) thinks multiple wives puts too much strain on a man and the wives suffer from neglect. Well, I know old Winston pretty well and it doesn’t look like he’s strained too much to me, and as far as his wives go, the ones I’ve seen look happy and contented.

I’m not a Mormon or a fundamentalist Mormon, and I believe there’s good and bad in all religions. We’ve all got the right to freedom of religion and none of us have the right to judge others. Isn’t that what the Bible says?
