Criticism an attempt to deflect attention?

To the Editor:

I am writing in response to the letter from Wesly Graham (www.bclocalnews.com/kootenay_rockies/crestonvalleyadvance/opinion/letters/121666754.html). I was appalled to see his letter criticizing Michelle Mungall. Mr. Graham apparently did not bother to telephone or email Ms. Mungall to find out why she was not able to attend the Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Governments AGM.

Mr. Graham also wrote that she did not even send a regret to let the people know why she did not attend. In the letter from Ms. Mungall (www.bclocalnews.com/kootenay_rockies/crestonvalleyadvance/opinion/letters/122890064.html), she states that she did send her regrets and explains the reasons why she was not able to attend the meeting.

In trying to understand why Mr. Graham would send such a negative letter, I can only think of the following reasons:

1. He is trying to put up a smoke screen so that people will forget the fact that he made an error in voting at the April 12 Regional District of Central Kootenay board meeting (“Graham votes against Creston CBT benefits”, April 21 Advance).

2. He is planning to run as candidate in the next provincial election.

3. He is mean spirited.

4. All of the above.

I certainly would not vote for him. Michelle Mungall is a hard working, conscientious and ethical MLA. She won the election in a democratic process with a large majority of votes. She deserves appreciation and respect.
