Creston's legion branch appreciates support for poppy campaign and Remembrance Day

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Creston branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, I extend thanks and appreciation to the churches, service organizations and residents of the entire Creston Valley for their generous and ongoing support of our poppy campaign. Recent events bring home the importance of our military personnel and reinforces the remembrance and respect that they so richly deserve, past and present.

Thank you to everyone who took the time and braved the cold to attend this year’s cenotaph service. Attendance at the services is growing, which indicates an ever-increasing understanding of the meaning of Remembrance Day. “At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.”

Branch 29 supports community projects and youth activities, as well as programs for our valley seniors. We have about 400 dues-paying members, but unfortunately only a small percentage can be classed as active and involved. A more involved membership would ease the workload and responsibilities of those striving to keep our legion alive.
