It’s that time of year again - time for our library staff to pick our favourite books that we read this year. Please know, this is very difficult work for us to pick only a small number to share with you when we read as much as we do. But we toil on in service to you.

All books listed here were published this year, are from various genres, are for various ages, and would make great gifts for those you love, if you celebrate gift-giving holidays in December. Formats listed show our current library holdings. Enjoy your winter reading!

The Measure by Nikki Erlick (Adult Fiction, ebook, e-audiobook)

Eight ordinary people. One extraordinary choice. It seems like any other day. You wake up, pour a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. This box holds your fate inside: the answer to the exact number of years you will live. (from StoryGraph)

How to Age Disgracefully by Clare Pooley (Adult Fiction, ebook, e-audiobook)

A senior citizens’ center and a daycare collide with hilarious results in the new ensemble comedy from New York Times-bestselling author Clare Pooley.  When Lydia takes a job running the Senior Citizens’ Social Club three afternoons a week, she assumes she’ll be spending her time drinking tea and playing gentle games of cards. Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller (Adult Fiction, ebook, e-audiobook)

Beverly Underwood and her arch enemy, Lula Dean, live in the tiny town of Troy, Georgia, where they were born and raised. Now Beverly is on the school board, and Lula has become a local celebrity by embarking on a mission to rid the public libraries of all inappropriate books—none of which she’s actually read. To replace the “pornographic” books she’s challenged at the local public library, Lula starts her own lending library in front of her home: a cute wooden hutch with glass doors and neat rows of the worthy literature that she’s sure the town’s readers need.

What Lula doesn’t know is that a local troublemaker has stolen her wholesome books, removed their dust jackets, and restocked Lula’s library with banned books: literary classics, gay romances, Black history, witchy spell books, Judy Blume novels, and more. (from StoryGraph)

Full of Myself by Siobhan Gallagher (Adult Graphic Novel)

Author and illustrator Siobhán Gallagher's humorous and heartfelt graphic memoir details her journey from being the anxious and unhappy "funny fat friend" to learning to love herself along with all her imperfections. (from StoryGraph)
