Creston senior enjoyed Santa Claus Parade from child's perspective

For all who took time together to make all the first-time seers of a parade filled with awe, a big thank you...

To the Editor:

First, a big thank you to the Advance for making it easy to know when and where all Santa Claus Parade happenings were to be for our pleasure. Even the weather co-operated for us!

Second, to all who took time and planned such an event.

Third, for the magic parade and all who took time together to make all the first-time seers of a parade, children around two years old, and seniors alike who were filled with awe, a big thank you.

I saw the parade through the eyes of a wee person. Her daddy wanted her to have fun first catching candy and smiling for everyone, but that lasted until the moving lights caught her attention and Daddy was forgotten, left to pick up some candy himself.

Her first look was a little fear maybe, but the big police car looked so bright, and with people and children’s laughter, she relaxed. Then came the fire engines, then in time there was pure delight at the floats — so lovely and no long waits. Boys and girls were laughing and waving and calling out. At a very tall stiff-legged man, she backed up a little, and then forgot again. Even seniors in their “ride ons” were just as awed and clapped and stopped eating their hotdogs and cake.

I was so happy that everyone on the floats was happy. It took the onlookers as well to make the parade a magic hour they will never forget.

For me, who on Dec. 1, 2009, lost my heartbeat and never came to awareness for 20 hours, this parade touched my heart and I know how fortunate I am to have another chance and appreciate what love went into this day, and to see through a child’s eyes the magic God of love has given us all.
