Change needed in Candian government

To the Editor:

I received three phone calls after my Dec. 9 letter (“Canadian ‘democracy’ is a fallacy”, page 7). The first was from Kootenay-Columbia member of Parliament Jim Abbott. What a nice guy! Really, I was very impressed. It is of no wonder he has served this area for as long as he has. Of course, as I am singing his praises, the Conservatives are trying to privatize the Canada Pension Plan. Unreal! I dare you. I guarantee you, we’ll burn down every government building and financial institution in this country in one night. You’ve been smoking Yankee crack if you think you’re going to get away with that, eh.

The second was from our former NDP candidate for Kootenay-Columbia. No wonder the NDP has never attained power. “If we can save one life, then the long gun registry is worth it.” What? At the sake of breaking the country? “Well, yes, if we can save one life.” How about starting with the medical system? Giving the doctors and nurses more resources and less paperwork would save a life. Then you stop letting the food industry regulate itself; that would definitely save a life. Outlaw all cigarettes; that would surely save a life. Get rid of all junk food and make minimum nutrition standards for the fast food industry; that would save a life. And for her stand on violence against women, outlaw all alcohol. That would save a life and cut down on violence against women.

How about making the punishment fit the crime and send a message to our criminals like Paul Bernardo, Robert Pickton and that guy that killed his kids. Oh no, we have to rehabilitate them, and save a life. I didn’t mention to her that I have five daughters. Lady, if a guy calls up one of my girls and threatens to put a bullet in her, the cops will be looking for that guy, all right. At the bottom of Kootenay Lake.

Finally, Sylvia called me up to thank me for what I had said, for standing up and saying what needs to be said. She asked me not to give up and she apologized for her generation for allowing this to happen to Canadian politics and Canadian people, and encouraged me to punch those fascist bastards in the teeth, and not to give up until we have a proper democratic system in place. So that is my new goal in life. Eventually, they have to call an election, and when they do, I’ll be ready for them.
