As Earth Day 2025 approaches, the Creston Valley Climate Action Society is gearing up for events aimed at raising environmental awareness and inspiring action to protect our planet. This year’s celebrations feature an exciting mix of educational activities, nature walks, and captivating films, encouraging all to reflect on the future of our world and how we can preserve it for generations to come.
A Double Feature for the Whole Family
For film lovers, this Earth Day offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy a thought-provoking double feature. On Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22, the Creston Valley Public Library will screen the beloved animated classic The Lorax at 3:30 p.m., followed by the visionary documentary 2040 at 5:30 p.m.
The Lorax, based on Dr. Seuss's timeless story, brings the importance of environmental stewardship to the forefront with its playful yet powerful message. The tale follows the character of the Lorax, the guardian of the forest, as he tries to protect nature from the destructive forces of industrialization. This family-friendly film serves as a great introduction to the concept of conservation for young audiences.
Immediately after, the library will screen 2040, a documentary directed by Damon Gameau, which looks at potential solutions to climate change through an optimistic lens. Instead of focusing solely on the problems, 2040 explores how innovative technologies and community-driven projects could create a brighter, more sustainable future. With stunning visuals and a hopeful message, 2040 reminds viewers that the future is still in our hands, and there is much we can do to make the world a better place.

Raising Awareness, Inspiring Action
These Earth Day events provide an opportunity to celebrate the planet, engage with nature, and reflect on the need for collective action to address environmental challenges. Whether through the arts, education, or direct interaction with nature, the aim is to inspire individuals to become more mindful of their impact on the environment and take steps toward a sustainable future.
The Creston Valley Climate Action Society hopes that the blend of family-friendly films, guided nature tours, and community-driven conversations will spark a renewed commitment to protecting the Earth for years to come. As we look ahead to the challenges of the 21st century, Earth Day serves as a reminder that each of us can make a difference.
