One of the sure signs of spring in the valley is the annual Creston Valley Home and Garden Show, coming up April 12 and 13 (Friday 2-9 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.) at the Creston and District Community Complex. The show has been called “the best trade show in the Kootenays.” It is one of the major events in the valley with over 2,500 people attending each year.

There are over 60 vendors and counting — if you are interested in a booth please call the chamber today at 250-428-4342. Displays include everything from home electronics, furnishings, yard and garden supplies, RV supplies, and plumbing/heating/electrical to fitness equipment, home security, health care, jewelry, art, festivals and associations. As always, there will be lots of food on-site.

An exciting new addition this year is the quilt show. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Creston Valley Quilters Guild. Come out and see over 140 quilts and quilted items on display in the Creston Curling Centre rink.

Another feature you don’t want to miss is the Creston Valley Food Action Coalition speaker series. There will be a presentation every hour. Topics include seed saving, beekeeping, cheese making and farm markets.

There is always a lot to see, do and buy at the home and garden show. And there are always great door prizes: This year’s grand prize is a Broil King barbecue, a grillzebo and chairs sponsored by Creston’s Home Hardware Building Centre, and other prizes include tickets to Footlighters Theatre Society’s production of Annie, a gift certificate to Morris Flowers, and dozens of vendor draws.

All this is only a $3 admission (with children 12 and under free when accompanied by an adult).

The home and garden show is a can’t-miss event! For more information call the chamber at 250-428-4342 or visit www.CrestonValleyChamber.com.

Another sign of spring is election time. The chamber of commerce is providing two opportunities to meet the three Nelson-Creston riding candidates (incumbent MLA Michelle Mungall (NDP), and challengers Sveng Derkx (Green Party) and Greg Garbula (Liberal Party). All three will all be at the home and garden show on April 12 and 13, and the local all-candidates meeting will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. April 24 at the Prince Charles Theatre. Creston Valley Toastmasters will be facilitating the question-and-answer event.
