To the Editor:

With the coming B.C. provincial election in the spring of next year, I thought this would be a good time to add my two cents’ worth.

Personally, I would like to see a man or woman Conservative candidate make a run for the premiership, someone who has new and fresh ideas and is willing to work with the Liberals, New Democrats and Greens — because, as far as I am concerned, partisan politics is now considered redundant. Originally, I was a supporter of the NDP from the late 1970s until the early 1980s. But that’s a very long story.

He or she must possess a warm heart, and be compassionate, optimistic, charismatic, sincere, honest and able to connect with people on an emotional, spiritual and intellectual level, but at the same time, be strong willed, with a hell-bent-for-leather, take-no-prisoners attitude by having the courage to eliminate poverty, hunger, greed, corruption, ignorance, domestic violence, racism, bullying, unemployment, pollution and illiteracy. As Margaret Thatcher once said, “Defeat? I do not recognize the meaning of the word!”

In a future letter, I will talk more about the upcoming B.C. election, and also share my conservative philosophy with you. However, it will be three months before I write my next letter, so please be patient and bear with me, as it will be well worth the wait.

But in the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in my hometown of Creston a merry Christmas. Remember, angels most certainly exist and miracles do indeed occur. There is also plenty to be said about the power of prayer — this is something I do every day of the year. God bless everyone, regardless of your faith, and peace on Earth, and good will to all men, women and children. Always be kind to others, help those who are less fortunate, keep thinking positively, never give up hope and don’t worry — the world will not come to an end on Dec. 21. Instead, it will mark the dawn of a new beginning for civilization and our beautiful planet.

Best wishes in 2013!
