Wolfgang Kurt Blessing

October 12, 1943 ~ April 5, 2016

Wolfgang Blessing passed away peacefully in the early hours of April 5, 2016 at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 72 with his wife by his side and after a lengthy and courageous battle with multiple illnesses.

Wolfgang was born in Mistelbach, Austria and came to Esslingen, Germany at the age of two. In April 1982 he, his wife and his two sons moved from Germany to Ponoka, Alberta, and operated a business there with his family for 30 years.

He was a master plasterer by trade and had a lifelong love of building (especially with wood) and designing mini railroads. In 2012 he could fulfill his dream of retiring in Creston, BC.

Wolfgang will forever be lovingly remembered for his positive attitude, kindness, his brave optimism, his love of soccer and sitting in the warmth of the sun enjoying his garden and watching his fruit trees grow. He was well read and very interested and concerned about the state of the world. He was very devoted to his wife and his family and having them around was his greatest joy and uplift.

He was predeceased by his father Adolf Blessing in 1988.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Ursula; his 92 year old mother Margareta; his sons Markus (Kari) and Mike (Maureen); and his beloved grandchildren Emily, Jonathan and Monique.

We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to all those who supported us throughout his difficult time especially his dialysis nurses, Dr. Hopkins and all the doctors and nurses at the Creston Valley Hospital and all the doctors and nurses throughout the years.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the many friends who supported and helped our family throughout our years in Ponoka, Alberta, especially Eileen, Roy and Peter Kinnaird and their families and for the support and help of our new friends throughout our time in Creston, especially Erhard, Irene and Monalei Dallmann; Anna and Alois Hausleitner; and Olga and Joe Hoehn for the wonderful apple juice, sauerkraut and homemade wine we enjoyed. We thank everybody who phoned or dropped in to show their support and concern, for all the flowers and we are grateful for our wonderful caring neighbours, especially Janice, Linda, Tina and their families, who dropped off delicious food and are always there for us when we need them. You all made us feel so welcomed and we thank you.

According to Wolfgang's wishes, a private family ceremony was held on April 9, 2016.

Those wishing to do so may make donations to the Dialysis Unit at the Creston Valley Hospital, Bag 3000, Creston, BC VOB 1GO.
