William (Bill) Mahon

May 3, 1935 ~ February 7, 2012

William (Bill ) Mahon passed away February 7, 2012 at the Swan Valley Lodge at the age of 76 years.

Bill was born May 3, 1935 to Gladys and William Mahon at Bapeaum, SK, where they homesteaded the property for a few years before moving to Lister, BC in 1942 to farm. Bill’s father William passed away in 1950.

Bill joined the Canadian Air Force as a radar operator stationed in Beaverbon, NS, Loc St. Dennis, Que, Ottawa, ON and Metz, France. He had the opportunity to travel all over Europe and returned to Falconbridge, ON, where he retired from the Canadian Air Force. He moved to Niagara Falls, ON, where Bill was employed at the Canada Post and later married Doris Lawrence, where the couple spent the next 22 years until Doris passed away from cancer.

Shortly after he retired from the post office, Bill began to volunteer with the hospice organization in the USA and then chose to work with people coping with A.I.D.S. He then moved to Nelson to be closer to his aging parents. While there, Bill got involved with ANKORS, an A.I.D.S. organization. He stayed in Nelson until it was necessary to return to Creston to care for his mother following her husband’s passing.

He was predeceased by his father, Bill, wife Doris, step-daughter, step-father Kirk Beard and mother Gladys.

Bill is survived by his much beloved son Doug, who resides in England, and the Mahon family of Creston.

Bill was a kind and caring man and will be sorely missed.
