Walter Pohl

April 19, 1930 ~ March 19, 2013


Walter Pohl was called to be with the Lord on March 19, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the Kootenay-Boundary Regional Hospital, at the age of 82 years, after a short illness.


Walter was born near Leduc, Alberta on April 19, 1930 to Olga and Adolph Pohl, the eighth of seventeen siblings. Walter received his education in a country school near Leduc, AB.

He moved to Creston in 1955 and married Helga Bleise in 1958 and together they had four children. Walter married MaryAnn Robinson in 1980 and spent 32 years together until her passing in 2012. Walter was an active member of the Erickson Evangelical Covenant Church, which he assisted in the construction of and many woodworking projects, as he was a master carpenter. Walter was employed at Wynndel Box and Lumber for 33 years. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and all outdoor recreational activities.


He was predeceased by his parents, Olga and Adolf Pohl, Helga Bleise-Pohl, Maryanne Pohl; brothers Edward, Wilhelm, Herman, Heinrich and Paul; sisters Freida Vogel, Doreen Pohl and Florence Pohl.

Walter will be dearly missed by son Gordon (Vicki) Pohl; daughters Barbara (Roy) Palmer, Bonalin (Ed) Ksiezopolski and Karen (Robert) Katzenberger; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Elsie Wissman, Robert (Jean) Pohl, Ida (Paul) Shellert, Selma Kalis, Daniel (Anne) Pohl, Dennis (Carolyn) Pohl, David (Kathy) Pohl and John (Ruth) Pohl.


We have lost and Heaven has gained the most wonderful dad, grandfather and great-grandfather this world contained. There’s just one thing makes us glad, God chose you to be our dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held on Saturday March 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Erickson Evangelical Covenant Church, with Pastor Tom Greentree officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC
