Tassie Yanko (nee Hook)

Tassie Yanko (nee Hook) passed away peacefully on May 4, 2010 in Royal Columbian Hospital at the age of 90 years.

Tassie was born to Bill and Julia Hook on October 3, 1919 at Stove Creek, SK, one of twelve children and moved to Canyon, BC as a small girl.


She is survived by her loving husband of almost 65 years Pete, sons Ken and Don (Sonya), daughters Carol Ann Reid and Tammy (Vince) Fischer, grandchildren Alisa, Leon, Nelson, Cindy (Rob) Hitchcock, Jeremy, Vinnie and Dawson, great-grandchildren Braeden, Kirsten and Jordon, two brothers Bill (Joan) Hook, Jerry (Beth) Hook, two sisters Kay (Dave) Shunter and Betty Roper as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Mary, Stella, Pauline, Helen, Anne and brothers Mike and Peter.


Tassie was loved by all who knew her and made many friends in her neighborhood with coffee parties, bowling and dancing. She also loved to play cards, can fruits and vegetables, garden, read and cook for her family.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Columbia-Bowell Funeral Chapel, 219 6th Street, New Westminster where a funeral service and reception will follow.

Interment will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3789 Royal Oak, Burnaby, BC.
