Stanley George Hendren
February 7, 1921 ~ October 30, 2013
Stanley George Hendren passed away suddenly at his home in Wynndel, B.C. on October 30, 2013 at the age of 92 years.
Stanley was born in Vancouver on February 7, 1921 to a Creston pioneer family. Stan lived the majority of his life in the Creston Valley. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII, and at the war’s end worked decommissioning navy vessels in Esquimalt. It was here that he met and married Lorraine Turner. He brought her back to Creston to begin raising a family and start a 33 year career with Canada Customs. After 25 years of marriage, sadly Lorraine passed away. Later, he was blessed to find love again, marrying Zora Webber and helping to raise her two children during their 29 year union. Many grandchildren followed providing much joy in his life.
Stan was a keen observer of nature, a successful hunter and keen fly fisherman. He loved sharing these skills with his families.
He served as Secretary-Treasurer of the local Legion, and actively served with the Shriners.
Stan was predeceased by his parents, Lillian and George; his wives, Lorraine and Zora; and all his younger siblings, Ethel, Sis, Theo and Alvin.
He is survived by his children Murray (Margaret) of Vancouver, Gary (Connie) of Victoria, Allana (Wayne) Annett of Cranbrook and Wade Webber (Michele) of Wynndel; eight grandchildren: Paul and Elizabeth, Ryan and Mark, Jody and Rowdy, Rayna and Reece, and seven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Doug Stapleton Officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gizeh Patient Transportation Fund (in support of sick children), 3550 Wayburne Drive, Burnaby, BC V5G 3K9.
