Words cannot express our profound sadness as we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and Papa, Rudy Salvador, who lost his short but courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in California on Friday, January 26th, 2018.
Left to grieve are Rudy's love and wife of 52 years, Peggy, his children Holly, Ross (Holly), and Mark (Lies) and grandchildren Louis, Malaena, Mac, Grace and Jack, his brother Gino (Donna) and sister Loretta Lamontagne and their families. Rudy is pre-deceased by his parents Louis and Olga and brother-in-law Marcel Lamontagne. Sharing this grief is a large extended family and a number of longtime friends.
Rudy grew up in Creston, BC after his family relocated from Coleman, AB when he was 5 years old. He graduated from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1959 with a Land Survey Technology diploma. He began his career as a surveyor for BC Ministry of Highways working to build the Rogers Pass and the Salmo Creston Pass.
Always looking for a new challenge, in 1961, Rudy joined his father Louis and brother Gino in the family business, Louis Salvador & Son Ltd supplying concrete, sand and gravel in the Creston Valley.
A year after marrying in 1965, he and Peggy moved to Cranbrook to expand the business and made their home and raised their three children. Rudy would become an active volunteer and respected community member, involved in the Gyro Club, golf club, curling club and provincially in the BC Ready Mix Concrete Association.
For over four decades, Rudy played an active role in building many residential developments and many of the infrastructure projects in the Kootenay's from the foundation up. He had great vision in seeing projects and supported bringing them to fruition. Rudy's practical approach to business gained him the respect of his colleagues, and he was a pioneer in the redevelopment of gravel pits to commercial land.
In 2006, after 45 years in business, Rudy retired after working alongside his brother, both his sons and Terry Thompson. Salvador Ready Mix Concrete truly was a family business, after 55 years it was sold but retained the Salvador name.
Upon his retirement Rudy thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, golfing with Peggy and friends, travelling, wintering in Palm Springs, and spending time with his coffee crew.
Rudy was the best husband, father, Papa and friend we could ask for. He was a good man who exemplified strength, courage, generosity, integrity and a strong work ethic. Above all Rudy was a family man who taught us how to look after one another. We love you with all our hearts and will miss you forever.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 9th, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Colombo Lodge, 2550 - 8th Avenue South, Cranbrook, BC.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at Eisenhower Medical Centre, Rancho Mirage, CA for their outstanding care and attention during his battle with AML.
Donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (llscanada.org) or the Cranbrook Hospital Auxiliary on his behalf would be greatly appreciated.
