Rudolf Gerhard Wilhelm Seemel

November 8, 1927- April-11, 2015

Rudy was born in Skoudas, Lithuania, and spent most of his growing up years in both Lithuania and later, after the war, in Germany. In 1949 he emigrated to Surrey, B.C., Canada. In 1956 he met and married Hannelore Volkmann, his wife of 57 years. Together they built a home and raised their family of five children. They moved to Creston in 1998.

Rudy was predeceased by Hannelore in 2014, and will be greatly missed by Birgit, Iris, Barbara, Claudia, Rene, and their spouses; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.

Lessons learned from Rudy: We learned that there is always room for one more; whether it was in the Volkswagen, at the table for a meal, or on the hay wagon.

We learned the value and sheer joy of working with your hands; whether it was digging a well, milking a cow, building a house, or crafting something wonderful on the lathe with a piece of wood, and to be thankful for a finished task.

We learned the thrill of a mountain top, the beauty of a back road, and the glory of an alpine flower. We learned the importance and eternal impact of helping those in need. We learned to laugh and the delight of a well placed pun. We learned the value of a good book, especially God's Word. We learned from Rudy a love for, and devotion to, a personal and loving Heavenly Father. On April 11, 2015 Rudy peacefully went home to Heaven to be with Jesus.

We will always be grateful for the loving and caring staff at Swan Valley Lodge, where he spent his final years.
