Rod Nerbas

November 1, 1936 ~ July 3, 2012

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints…”

Rod Nerbas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Claresholm General Hospital after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 75 years.

Rod was born in MacNutt, Saskatchewan in 1936. He and Alberta met in Hinton, Alberta and were married in 1962. Rod obtained his Certified Management Accountant designation by correspondence while balancing a full time job and a young family. His career took the family to Kitimat and Prince Rupert, BC and then finally to Fort McMurray, Alberta where he worked until his retirement in 1992. Rod and Alberta retired in the Creston valley; a place Rod had always loved. In 2005, they moved to Claresholm to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Rod was a quiet, unassuming individual. He loved spending time with his family and was known and appreciated for his wry sense of humour. He loved sports and over his lifetime excelled at baseball, hockey, golf, and curling. He also had a creative side and enjoyed painting and playing the guitar. Retirement years gave Rod time to enjoy his love of golf and gardening. He gave unselfishly of his time to many and varied organizations and charities. Rod was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Rod was the only child of John and Lena Nerbas, who predeceased him in 1991 and 1997, respectively.

He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, Alberta, his beloved wife of 50 years; four children, Laurel (Kevin), Michael (Liana), Tim (Kim), and Anita (Ryan); eight grandchildren, Curtis, Eric, Jeffrey, Scott, Leah, Kate, Sean, and Abbey; and his faithful dog Lily.

Funeral Services were held at Faith Community Baptist Church on Saturday, July 7, 2012, with Reverend Art Hildebrand officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Claresholm and District Health Foundation, Box 2638, Claresholm, AB, T0L 0T0 would be appreciated.
