November 29, 1939 - June 12, 2022
In loving memory ~
Robert George Cowley (Bob) born November 29, 1939 passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 12th, 2022, surrounded by his wife and family.
Bob lived life seeking, welcoming, and unafraid of hard work. Indeed, a man who was the salt of the earth. Hard work is a virtue that he bequeathed to his children and grandchildren. Despite only completing school up to grade 8, Bob was an innovative spirit and would go on to work as an engineer, architect, and heavy equipment designer, founding multiple businesses. His career started when he was only 5 years old. Yes, a 5-year-old cutting down trees for mine construction props! By 6 years old, he was shooting and trapping coyotes and other animals to sell their furs to the Hudson Bay Co.
Even after retiring in 2000, he kept working: maintaining, renovating, repairing. But Bob was also grateful and humble, as can be seen in a letter he wrote to his family;
"I take great pride in my accomplishments over the years, and both the love of my life, Minna Cowley, and the support she has given me. Without her love and support, I could not have made it this far... Minna is doing more for me each day as I get more useless..."
In his final years, Bob suffered tremendously from his inability to work and be present to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, like many others, he suffered isolation from the lockdown. All this weighed heavily on him. Losing him is painful, but we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. We would like to thank Swan Valley Lodge for their care and dedication to Bob as he neared the end of his life.
Robert George Cowley leaves behind his dear and beautiful wife, Minna Cowley; six children; Terry Lynn, Bonnie Jean, Robert Guy, Brenda Ellen, Patricia Ann, and Carol Lee; step children Janni and Robert; and grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
We will all miss him and hold him dear to our hearts.
