Peter Wiens

September 24, 1930 ~ April 23, 2010

Peter Wiens passed away suddenly on April 23, 2010 at the age of 79 years.

Peter was born on the family farm, six miles from Haque, SK, on September 24, 1930 to parents John and Aganetha Wiens.

He moved to Burns Lake, BC in 1950 where he married Margaret Reynolds in 1953 and worked various jobs until moving to Smithers, BC in 1957. In 1962 he bought the Bowling Centre in Smithers and in 1977 was remarried to Ruth. They sold the bowling centre and made the move to Wynndel, BC. While living in Wynndel from 1977 he ran a hobby farm and drove the school bus and in 1986 he moved to Creston and retired from driving the school bus in 1990. After retirement, he kept busy with bowling and became involved with the Creston Seniors Association, eventually taking on the role of president.

In 2002, Pete and Elsie Lepine became best friends. When Peter wasn’t busy being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather he enjoyed his time as an active gardener, camping and fishing.

The waitresses in Creston will be pouring a little less coffee now.

Peter was predeceased by his daughter Susan; parents John and Aganetha; brothers Johann, Andreas, Heinrich, Jacob, Benjamin, Abraham, and Cornelis; sisters Aganetha, Eva, Anna, and Elisabeth.

He will be lovingly remembered by his brother David; sons Richard (Kathy) and Steven (Alanna); grandson Dean; granddaughters Stephanie and Jamie; great-granddaughter Monica; step-daughters Mary, Elizabeth and their families, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday May 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robin Celiz officiating.

Interment following at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC.
