Norma Evonne Wocknitz

November 4, 1935 ~ January 14, 2011

With great sorrow we announce the passing of Norma Evonne Wocknitz at the age of 75 at the Cranbrook Regional Hospital.

Norma was born on the family homestead in Maxim Saskatchewan on November 4, 1935.

She loved reminiscing and told many stories of living on the prairies and of her early years spent there with her parents, brothers and sisters.

At the age of thirteen Norma and her family relocated to Lister BC. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Lyle Gordon Wocknitz. Three years later, the two were wed. Making Creston their home, they spent fifty years together as husband and wife.

In addition to being a homemaker, Norma worked at several different professions throughout her life including chambermaid, orchard worker, cook and as a social worker at the Endicott Centre.

Norma was a very private person who dearly loved her family. She will be most fondly remembered as a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Norma was a wonderful cook and an avid gardener. A lover of the outdoors, many of her favourite times were spent in her garden as well as fishing and camping with her family.

Norma is pre-deceased by her parents Nellie and Ovila Provost; brother Don Beebe; sister Lea Taylor; son-in-law Jim Halliday and husband Lyle Wocknitz.

She is survived by her six children, Linda (the late Jim) Halliday; Kathy (Dave) Brown; Dale (Sherry) Wocknitz; Lyle (Mel) Wocknitz; Leanne (Bruce) Halliday and Lisa (Rick Acker) Wocknitz as well as 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Norma also leaves to mourn her brother Cal (June) Beebe and sisters Jean (Willie) Drefko and Thelma (Bud) Beck.

Funeral services will not be held as per Norma’s request. The family will hold a memorial ceremony at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Norma’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Arrangements entrusted to G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel.
