June 3, 1925 - October 11, 2018
Nellie Hrisook (nee Huscroft) of Creston, BC passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018, surrounded by her family, at the age of 93 years. Nellie was last surviving member of her generation of the Charles Huscroft branch of this local pioneer family.

Nellie was born on June 3, 1925 in Creston. She graduated with honours from the St. Eugene School of Nursing in 1948, married George Hrisook on October 14, 1950 in Lister, BC, and they made their home in Cranbrook for the next 23 years until George passed in April1 973.

Nellie continued her nursing career at the St. Eugene Hospital, with the FW Green clinic, and later at the Creston Medical Clinic. She was so proud of her hard earned nurse's cap and pin and wore both until her final retirement, even long after neither was a requirement.

Nellie was a very accomplished baker and cook and the lucky neighbours continued to receive her amazing air buns, jams, marmalade and spectacular chiffon cakes right up to her passing. We fondly remember the marathons of baking peach pies when the peaches were "just perfect'; yearly Christmas Cakes, and waiting for a freezing cold day to make Pierogies because there were too many to fit in the freezer all at once. This slight woman, living on her own, owned two fridges and a large freezer, all stocked full and ready for the next food shortage.

Next to family, her favorite pastime was winning...whether it was a good round of Bridge with the ladies or a Scrabble game with whomever was brave enough to take her on. She approached each game like everything else in life-with fierce determination to win.

Making quilts was also high on her enjoyment list, with attention to detail and perseverance that won her many awards and recognition in the Creston Valley Fall Fairs. Not one to waste anything, all the leftover material went into beautiful pieces that were given out to friends and family, with always a few more on the go in her sewing room.

Above all was her love of family. She absolutely cherished her children, grandchildren and most recently, her great grandchildren- and of course, their pets. She loved us all "To the Moon and Back" as she so often told us, especially in her last days.

Nellie is survived by daughters Carol (Dan) Geurts, Gail (Norm) Mailhot and son Doug (Dianne) Hrisook. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews to mourn her passing.

The Memorial service will be held Friday, October 19th, 2018 at 1 pm the Anglican Church on 422 7th Avenue North in Creston, BC.

Expressions of sympathy may be made, in memoriam of Nellie, to the Canadian Cancer Society.
